Happy Saturday!
I wanted to remind everybody about our Finish Along tomorrow at 3:00 PM EDT. We will be working on irregular shapes and I’ll be available to answer questions as we finish our pieces together.
I’m thrilled to share the prerecorded tutorial for irregular shaped ornaments.
This is one of the trickier finishes as the exact technique varies from piece to piece, but all the fundamentals stay the same.
All irregular shapes are a combination of squares and circles. You want to identify where those shapes are in your piece and use those methods to fold and lace your canvas.
It may be tricky at first, but as you get more comfortable, you will easily be able to plan the best technique to attach the canvas- lassoing or lacing and identify where you should cut. Each cut into the canvas is a potential spot where it can unravel and shred so I prefer to strategically approach tab cutting instead of blindly cutting multiple tabs . This helps ensure that my piece is as heirloom quality as possible and that it can easily be taken apart and refinished if desired.
It may be hard to believe, but the piece below only has 4 cuts in the canvas. I hope you’ll watch the full tutorial to see how I determine where and how to cut my canvases for funky irregular shapes.
Below is the full prerecorded tutorial.
