Cane Bag w/ Removable Needlepoint Class Recording
Add a little pizazz to your cane bags
Happy Thursday!
I’m currently writing this from Boston Logan Airport headed to the Penny Linn/ Morgan Julia Nantucket Needlepoint Retreat! I’m so excited and I hope I’ll get to meet a few of you on island this week. Before I sign off (mentally and physically), I wanted to share the cane bag class from this week.
The Thought Process
This project is inspired by a finish I completed for a client earlier this year. She wanted to add needlepoint to her bag and we discussed everything from glue to magnets. As always, I try to avoid glue unless necessary and I was concerned about the strong magnets potentially wiping electronics.
I ended up with this ribbon technique as it allows you to move your needlepoint from piece to piece. I personally bought two bags- one with white trim thats perfect for daytime usage and one with black trim for evening events. When not on bags, you can wrap the ribbon around bins or storage containers to jazz them up.
When planning this project, I wanted something a bit flatter as I wanted it to sit as flush to the bag as possible. While I love my normal ornament finishing techniques, I soon realized that two pieces of matboard and four sheets of batting would be way too thick and the project would protrude too far from the bag. This project uses an alternative finishing method that I’m excited to share.
